A short story from Fables of Good Will

A man was walking down the street one day. It was a small, quiet town. He was caught up in his thoughts as he kicked a few pebbles beneath his feet. When he passed the little well by the village gate, he began to hear a gentle whimper. The nearer he got, the whimper grew into a cry and the cry, into a yell. He came close to the well and looking down into its depths, he could not see anything. When he raised his voice, calling into the well, the response came immediately. It was a weakened yelp. The man could not see. A dog? A calf? He quickly rushed back to the town and gathered a number of others who could help. And quickly gathering some supplies, a ladder, a basket and a rope, they rushed back to the well. The man called back and received a response. The response this time was weak and even more frightened than it had been. The group gathered around the well could hear the splashing of the water as the animal struggled. Slowly, then and cautiously, the man, aided by the others, lowered the basket, which they had hastily but efficiently tied to the rope. When the rope on the basket stopped descending, they heard an excited cry and suddenly, it grew taut. The group, quickly lifted the rope to the top of the well. What they saw when the basket came in sight surprised them. It was a child! He was panting and crying now. When the basket had been completely hoisted out of the well, the group placed it on the ground. The child, no more than five years old had clearly been terrified. When he surveyed the group, he burst out in tears and held out his arms. The man lifted him up and held him, stroking the back of his head. That moment, the group started to hear other shouts. This time from the village. After a couple of minutes, a woman came running up the hill to the group. She saw her child and rushed to the man who handed him to her. She didn’t know what had happened. The group collected their tools and dispersed. The man stood at the well for a moment, watching the mother as she carried the child down the hill. The child was weeping still but through his tears and over his mother’s shoulder, he looked up to the man, standing on the hill and smiled warmly to him.

Rosary of Justice and Protection

Our Father

He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? (Mic 6:8) Hail Mary

Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow's cause. (Isa 1:17) Hail Mary

Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world. (Js 1:27) Hail Mary

A righteous man knows the rights of the poor; a wicked man does not understand such knowledge. (Pv 29:7) Hail Mary

Whoever oppresses a poor man insults his Maker, but he who is generous to the needy honors him. (Pv 14:31) Hail Mary

But woe to you Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and every herb, and neglect justice and the love of God. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others. (Lk 11:42) Hail Mary

Thus says the Lord: Do justice and righteousness, and deliver from the hand of the oppressor him who has been robbed. And do no wrong or violence to the resident alien, the fatherless, and the widow, nor shed innocent blood in this place. (Jer 22:3) Hail Mary

I know that the Lord will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and will execute justice for the needy. (Ps 140:12) Hail Mary

He executes justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the sojourner, giving him food and clothing. (Deut 10:18) Hail Mary

Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” (Rm 12:19) Hail Mary

For I the Lord love justice; I hate robbery and wrong; I will faithfully give them their recompense, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them. (Isa 61:8) Hail Mary

Vengeance is mine, and recompense, for the time when their foot shall slip; for the day of their calamity is at hand, and their doom comes swiftly.’ (Deut 32:35) Hail Mary

“‘Cursed be anyone who perverts the justice due to the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’ (Deut 27:19) Hail Mary

If among you, one of your brothers should become poor, in any of your towns within your land that the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart or shut your hand against your poor brother, but you shall open your hand to him and lend him sufficient for his need, whatever it may be. (Deut 15:7) Hail Mary

You shall do no injustice in court. You shall not be partial to the poor or defer to the great, but in righteousness shall you judge your neighbor. (Lev 19:15) Hail Mary

But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him? (1 Jn 3:17) Hail Mary

Listen, my beloved brothers, has not God chosen those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom, which he has promised to those who love him? (Js 2:5) Hail Mary

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.” (Lk 4:18,19) Hail Mary

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. (Mt 6:33) Hail Mary

No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money. (Mt 6:24) Hail Mary

Then I will draw near to you for judgment. I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, against the adulterers, against those who swear falsely, against those who oppress the hired worker in his wages, the widow and the fatherless, against those who thrust aside the sojourner, and do not fear me, says the Lord of hosts. “Thus says the Lord of hosts, Render true judgments, show kindness and mercy to one another, do not oppress the widow, the fatherless, the sojourner, or the poor, and let none of you devise evil against another in your heart.” (Zec 7:9,10) Hail Mary

But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream. (Amos 5:24) Hail Mary

Therefore I have poured out my indignation upon them. I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath. I have returned their way upon their heads, declares the Lord God. (Eze 22:31) Hail Mary

He judged the cause of the poor and needy; then it was well. Is not this to know me? Declares the Lord. (Jer 22:16) Hail Mary

Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer; you shall cry, and he will say, ‘Here I am.’ If you take away the yoke from your midst, the pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness, if you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday. Therefore the Lord waits to be gracious to you, and therefore he exalts himself to show mercy to you. For the Lord is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for him. (Isa 30:18) Hail Mary

Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation. (Ps 68:5) Hail Mary

And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. (Rev 21:3) Hail Mary

Come now, you rich, weep and howl for the miseries that are coming upon you. Your riches have rotted and your garments are moth-eaten. Your gold and silver have corroded, and their corrosion will be evidence against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have laid up treasure in the last days. Behold, the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, are crying out against you, and the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts. You have lived on the earth in luxury and in self-indulgence. You have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter. You have condemned and murdered the righteous person. He does not resist you. No weapon that is fashioned against you shall succeed, and you shall refute every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord and their vindication from me, declares the Lord. (Isa 54:17) Hail Mary

You have given me the shield of your salvation, and your right hand supported me, and your gentleness made me great. You gave a wide place for my steps under me, and my feet did not slip. (Ps 18:35,36) Hail Mary

“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? Our Father

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. (1 Cn 13:4-5) Hail Mary

Let all that you do be done in love. (1 Cn 16:14) Hail Mary

Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust. Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul. (Ps 143:8) Hail Mary

Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man. (Pv 3:3,4) Hail Mary

And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. (Cl 3:14) Hail Mary

So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. (1 Jn 4:16) Hail Mary

I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. (Ep 4:1-3) Hail Mary

We love because he first loved us. (1 Jn 4:19) Hail Mary

Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. (1 Pt 4:8) Hail Mary

For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. (1 Cn 13:2) Hail Mary

This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. (Jn 15:12) Hail Mary

Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you. Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are continually before me. (Isa 49:15,16) Hail Mary

Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. (Rm 12:10) Hail Mary

Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the steadfastness of Christ. (2 Thess 3:5) Hail Mary

No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us. (1 Jn 4:12) Hail Mary

If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. (1 Jn 4:20) Hail Mary

Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. (Jn 15:13) Hail Mary

See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. (1 Jn 3:1) Hail Mary

But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness. (1 Tim 6:11) Hail Mary

And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. (Ep 5:2) Hail Mary

When I thought, “My foot slips,” your steadfast love, O Lord, held me up. (Ps 94:18) Hail Mary

For this is the message that you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. (1 Jn 3:11) Hail Mary

And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” (Lk 10:27) Hail Mary

Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him. (Jn 14:21) Hail Mary

For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you. So I will bless you as long as I live; in your name I will lift up my hands. (Ps 63:3,4) Hail Mary

Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. (1 Jn 4:11) Hail Mary

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. (1 Jn 2:15) Hail Mary

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. (Jn 13:34) Hail Mary

For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you. (Ps 86:5) Hail Mary

Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. (Jn 14:23) Hail Mary

My son, do not despise the Lord's discipline or be weary of his reproof, for the Lord reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights. (Pv 3:11,12) Hail Mary

For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,” and any other commandment, are summed up in this word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Rm 13:9) Hail Mary

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. (Rm 8:28) Hail Mary

For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Gal 5:14) Hail Mary

Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent. (Rev 3:19) Hail Mary

We ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers, as is right, because your faith is growing abundantly, and the love of every one of you for one another is increasing. (2 Thess 1:3) Hail Mary

By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. (Jn 13:35) Hail Mary

For I want you to know how great a struggle I have for you and for those at Laodicea and for all who have not seen me face to face, that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God's mystery, which is Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. (1 Jn 4:7) Hail Mary

I made known to them your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them. (Jn 17:26) Hail Mary

Rosary of Repentance and Redemption

Our Father

Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus (Act 3:19,20) Hail Mary

The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. (2 Pt 3:9) Hail Mary

And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (Act 2:38) Hail Mary

From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” (Mt 4:17) Hail Mary

The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. (Act 17:30) Hail Mary

Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? (Rm 2:4) Hail Mary

When they heard these things they fell silent. And they glorified God, saying, “Then to the Gentiles also God has granted repentance that leads to life.” (Act 11:18) Hail Mary

Bear fruit in keeping with repentance. (Mt 3:8) Hail Mary

If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. (2 Ch 7:14) Hail Mary

You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock. (Isa 26:3-4) Hail Mary

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 Jn 1:9) Hail Mary

No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. (Lk 13:3) Hail Mary

Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent. (Rev 2:5) Hail Mary

I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance. (Lk 5:32) Hail Mary

For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death. (2 Cn 7:10) Hail Mary

And the Lord's servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth, and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will. “Therefore, O King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision, but declared first to those in Damascus, then in Jerusalem and throughout all the region of Judea, and also to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, performing deeds in keeping with their repentance. For this reason the Jews seized me in the temple and tried to kill me. To this day I have had the help that comes from God, and so I stand here testifying both to small and great, saying nothing but what the prophets and Moses said would come to pass: that the Christ must suffer and that, by being the first to rise from the dead, he would proclaim light both to our people and to the Gentiles.” (Act 26:19-23) Hail Mary

Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. (Lk 24:46,47) Hail Mary

For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, “In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.” But you were unwilling, and you said, “No! We will flee upon horses”; therefore you shall flee away; and, “We will ride upon swift steeds”; therefore your pursuers shall be swift. (Isa 30:15,16) Hail Mary

But if a wicked person turns away from all his sins that he has committed and keeps all my statutes and does what is just and right, he shall surely live; he shall not die. None of the transgressions that he has committed shall be remembered against him; for the righteousness that he has done he shall live. Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked, declares the Lord God, and not rather that he should turn from his way and live? (Eze 18:21-23) Hail Mary

Remember, then, what you received and heard. Keep it, and repent. If you will not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come against you. (Rev 3:3) Hail Mary

Repent, therefore, of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord that, if possible, the intent of your heart may be forgiven you. (Act 8:22) Hail Mary

Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will return to you. (Ps 51:13) Hail Mary

Make the heart of this people dull, and their ears heavy, and blind their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed. (Isa 6:10) Hail Mary

My brothers, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone brings him back, let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from his wandering will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins. (Js 5:19,20) Hail Mary

No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day. (Jn 6:44) Hail Mary

No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. (Lk 13:5) Hail Mary

Say to them, As I live, declares the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live; turn back, turn back from your evil ways, for why will you die, O house of Israel? (Eze 33:11) Hail Mary

What shall we say, then? That Gentiles who did not pursue righteousness have attained it, that is, a righteousness that is by faith; but that Israel who pursued a law that would lead to righteousness did not succeed in reaching that law.
